Product Description

Product Description

Boron Carbide (B4C), popularly known as black diamond, is the third hardest material after diamond and Cubic Boron Nitride. Because of its remarkable mechanical qualities, Boron Carbide is widely used in industries that require strong wear resistance and fracture toughness. Boron Carbide is also commonly used in nuclear reactors as control rods, shielding materials, and neutron detectors because of its ability to absorb neutrons without producing long-lived radionuclides.

Wintrustek produces Boron Carbide ceramics in three purity grades and using two sintering methods:

96% (Pressureless Sintering)

98% (Hot Press Sintering)

99.5% Nuclear grade (Hot Press Sintering)

Maximum Size 600x600mm
Typical Properties

Low density
Exceptional hardness
High melting point
High neutron absorption cross-section
Excellent chemical inertness
High elastic modulus

High bending strength

Typical Applications

Sandblasting nozzle
Shielding for neutron absorption
Focus ring for semiconductor
Body armor
Wear resistant lining
